The College Series: How to Make Your Dorm Room Feel Cozy

Hey y'all! I'm super excited to share with you the first post in my College Series! So over the course of the summer I'll be posting once a week for all you recent high school grads who are already planning for college or current college students who just want some advice! The first installation is one of the things I personally struggled with the most.

When I moved into my dorm room I was really overwhelmed with how dark and bleak it was. It didn't help that my building was really old and in need of renovations, but I made it work. Now I want to share with you guys some tips and tricks to help make your room feel cozy like home!

1. Pillows on Pillows
I know this seems like a waste of space in such a small area but honestly nothing made my bed feel (and look) better than a bunch of fluffy accent pillows! It really just makes you want to curl up and watch Netflix, am I right?

2. Find a Couple of Cozy Blankets
I got really lucky and scored some crazy good deals on throw blankets everywhere from TJ Maxx to Target last year and I was so glad I did. It was great for nights when you want to have friends over (to watch the Bachelor, let's be honest) and it's cold in your room or even just when you don't feel good and want to cuddle up under one million blankets because you have the chills.

3. Wall Art, Wall Art, Wall Art
Dorm room walls are very boring and very white. The more wall art you have the better. Last year I found some peel and stick stripes for walls that I used to make an accent wall behind my bed and it was a showstopper. Everyone that came in my room asked how I did it. If you want to save a little money you can always paint your own canvas to take up a decent amount of space on a budget.

4. Accent Lighting
My room only had one small light fixture attached to the wall so as I mentioned earlier, it was really dark. I had two different lamps and some fairy lights to help create ambience and also lighten the room up.

5. Get a Rug
My room had tile floors and while they were white, they were also super cold; especially in the morning! A rug was definitely worth the investment for me. It helped tie all my decor and colors together as well as hide some of the tile floor and keep my feet warm!

6. Make it Smell Good
Keep in mind most dorms don't allow candles.  I sell Scentsy so I brought one of my Scentsy warmers with me and I was so happy I did. You could also get a diffuser. Dorm rooms have a really weird smell and sometimes they can get really stuffy and having a really cozy scent helped get rid of the weird dorm smell and make the room feel really welcoming.

7. Talk to Your Roommate
You should get in touch with your new roomie ahead of time and try to decide on a color scheme. Rooms always look so awesome when things are coordinated. See if you can both agree on the same bedding, table lamps, and pillows and your room will be so cozy!

8. Make it You!
What do I mean by this? Bring whatever feels like home to you. I had tons of pictures of family and friends and even a stuffed animal I've had for years. It really helped make my room feel personal and cozy.

That's all I have for you! I've linked a bunch of options for each of my different points to give you some inspiration. Taking the time to plan and make my room really cozy was one of the best things I ever did. I really helped make it feel like home, which was important in feeling comfortable away from home. It also makes your room the place where everybody wants to hang out! Good luck on your college shopping spree, I hope you keep these tips in mind! I'd love to see your purchases! Memorial Day

Hey y'all! I hope everyone is having a great 3 day weekend! I'm spending today with family here at home relaxing. It feels nice to just take a minute to relax and enjoy the little things before the week starts up again.

It's a little windy and chilly here today so I opted for this white sweater and adorable striped J. Crew skirt. I have this skirt in so many colors because it looks so chic and it makes a very simple outfit with any top! This colorway is no longer available but I've linked the current options for solid colors here, and prints here.

I've paired this outfit with my all-time favorite Jack Rogers wedges. These are the Clare Rope Wedge in bone/white. They are neutral so they go with everything and they are so comfortable! You'll be seeing a lot more of these this summer! You can find them here

I hope y'all have a great rest of your long weekend!

Southern & Sweet Buttermilk Pie

Hey y'all! I have been just craving sweets lately, I don't know what the deal is but it's crazy! That being said I decided to bust out a family recipe favorite of mine that I just love. If you've never heard of or tried Buttermilk Pie I'd say it's similar to Chess Pie but has a little bit more of a tangy side to it. It's delicious! So I wanted to share the recipe with y'all so you can try it for yourselves!

Classic Southern Buttermilk Pie

Ingredients
  • 1 Deep Dish Pie Crust, unbaked (I cheat and use frozen)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
Directions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix together eggs, flour, sugar, buttermilk, butter, lemon juice, vanilla and salt until well combined.
  3. Pour into your unbaked pie crust and bake at 350 for 45-50 minutes ( until set and golden brown on top)
  4. Remove from oven and let cool.
  5. Refridgerate at least 2 hours before serving to allow the pie to set.
  6. Store in the refrigerator.

Let me know if you try it out and tell me what you think!

Hair Care & Giveaway!

Hey y’all! I am so excited to share this post with you! I have spent FOREVER looking for a great routine for my hair. My hair has always been super thick and dry and has never really wanted to grow, it’s the worst! I actually stumbled upon my current shampoo & conditioner from Soapbox soaps about a year ago through a VoxBox from Influenster! If you haven’t heard of Influenster, it’s a company that rewards social influencers with free products in exchange for honest reviews! It’s totally free to join and you can get all kinds of goodies. You can join using the link here: www.influenster.com/r/3128761

I was pretty leary when I tried it out the first time since my hair is so tempermental, but I fell in love! It is seriously the best, and it’s so reasonably priced! Ringing up at just $5.99 a bottle it’s an awesome deal. It’s also color safe, sulfate free, and paraben free which makes it great for everyone! It makes my hair super soft and it has actually helped my hair start growing again so I couldn’t be happier. Not to mention it smells so good!

Now on to the best part; the mission. Soapbox’s motto is soap=hope. What exactly does this mean? For every Soapbox product purchased they provide a bar of soap to someone in need. So many lives can be saved or even just improved by access to personal hygiene and Soapbox is improving tons of lives. They have donated over a million bars of soap so far! It’s pretty cool to know that every time I restock my shower supplies I’m helping out two people in need. There’s a code on every product so if you visit their website and use that code you can see exactly where your purchase is helping out.

Next up is Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioner. It’s also sulfate and paraben free, it’s formulated with 100% pure shea butter and I use this after every shower to help keep my hair moisturized and keep me from getting split ends. It works so well! I picked mine up at Target so you can grab it here.

Last but not least we have the Garnier Fructis Marvelous Oil 5-Action Hair Elixir. Y’all when they say marvelous they aren’t kidding. Like I mentioned before my hair is super dry but this elixir works wonders. I use it every morning before I style my hair and occasionally on my ends after I style it. It keeps my hair smooth and moisturized, it even adds shine!

So that is my complete hair care routine! I hope you guys enjoyed this post, now I have a surprise! I’ll be giving away my hair care routine to one lucky winner at the end of the week so make sure you subscribe to the blog and follow me on Instagram @timeforclassy! Each of these counts as one entry!  Good luck everyone!

Blue is the New Black

Hey y'all! Today I'm talking about a VoxBox I received from Influenster! Do you use Influenster? They send you free products in exchange for honest reviews.** The more social media presence you have the more influence they see and the more free products you get! It's a really awesome way to try out new things and I've loved 90% of the things they've sent me.

I'll link the products in case anyone wants to try them!

I'm really excited to review this box because I was so pleasantly surprised by how much I loved this mascara! So in the Maybelline Great Lash Royal Blue VoxBox I got both the Great Lash mascara in Royal Blue and the Maybelline Unstoppable eyeliner pencil. I was really nervous to try the blue mascara at first because I already have bright green eyes and blue mascara is just way out of my comfort zone but I actually love it! I have dark lashes so it's a subtle enough look that I didn't feel crazy wearing it, and paired with the eyeliner it's a perfect look for date night or just a night out with the girls! The Maybelline Great Lash mascara has existed before but it was discontinued so Maybelline did a great job of listening to their customers and brought it back! It's such a unique look that I'll be reaching for it way more than I originally thought! The prices are great too, each item is between $5 and $8! You can't beat that! I'll show y'all some before and after pictures so you can see the difference between my bare lashes and two coats of the Great Lash Royal Blue and the Unstoppable black eyeliner.

Again I want to mention Influenster because it's like Christmas in a box every time they send you a VoxBox! They're always filled with really great products and it only takes a couple seconds to review them on their app! You can sign up here!

Thanks for stopping by!

**Disclosure: I received these products for free from Influenster for testing purposes but all opinions are my own.

Happy Derby Day!

Hey y'all! I hope you've seen all the changes I've made to the blog in the past few days, I've been working really hard to improve functionality and design! I'm also on summer break which means I'll be posting more! I'm currently working on a couple really great posts (some of which might include a giveaway!) so keep your eyes peeled for those! I'd love to know what you think of the new design too feel free to drop a comment here or on my Instagram! I'm looking forward to hearing from you all! Today some friends and I headed to the Amana Colonies to explore and hit up a couple of the local wineries (which are amazing by the way). There was also a festival going on and there were a handful of really great local food trucks as well so naturally I had to get some street tacos. They were delicious! We decided to round out the cheat meal with some cookie dough ice cream and the day was made!

The weather here has been pretty off and on lately and it makes it nearly impossible to figure out what to wear on any given day. That being said today I decided to pair this adorable J. Crew skirt I've been dying to take the tags off of with a sweater since it's still a little chilly and windy. I had to include these adorable espadrille wedges from Target because they are seriously just the cutest (and cheap! They're under $25!) and are actually crazy comfortable! I really like that the wedge isn't too crazy high so they're perfect for everyday! You can shop them here! Now I'm headed off to the dog park so my crazy ball of energy (ahem, I mean dog) can calm down a bit and get rid of some energy so I don't have to wake up and walk him at 5:30 in the morning. Dog mom life! I hope you all have a great Saturday, thanks for stopping by!
